The Lake District

Holiday Away in The Lake District

I've never really been a fan of camping but I have always loved hiking and spending time outdoors. In April, my boyfriend and his family invited me on a trip to the Lake District. It was a chance to relax before my finals and go outdoors to appreciate the countryside.
It was my first time visiting The Lakes and it was more beautiful than I had ever imagined.

On the first day, we took a day to visit Keswick to play crazy golf, which I obviously lost due to highly skilled competition. But afterwards we walked down to the lake to look at the mountainous view and it was so lovely just taking it all in.

Since we were staying in a house, with a gorgeous view, in Ambleside, we spent the evenings walking into the centre and on two occasions we had dinner at a restaurant called Zeffirellis. It is a cute, little restaurant with delicious variations of vegetarian dishes and they also have a special offer of dinner and a movie ticket in one of their cinemas. So on the two nights we had dinner there, we also went to watch 'The Book Theif' and 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'. Both of the movies were ones, I would not typically chose to watch but they actually turned out to be two of the best movies I've ever watched, so I definitely recommend them. Teaches me to never judge a book by its cover!

On the following day, we decided to drive to Grasmere for a hike and to search for some famous gingerbread! In terms of our hike, we ended up walking all the way up to the Easdale Tarn. When we reached the tarn, the view was absolutely phenomenal and it was picture perfect for a little picnic break before we headed back down.

Once we got back to Grasmere, the gingerbread shop was easy to locate as it was the only place with a big, long queue waiting to enter. It was a very small shop but it was packed with lots of ginger goodies and I just could not help myself. Left the shop as one very excited and satisfied customer. Afterwards we headed to a little cafe to have some tea and try out these famous biscuit. The gingerbread is so delicious! It seriously is a definite MUST-try if you ever visit).

Being at the Lake District, it seemed such a waste not to travel across the lake so we took a day to travel to Waterhead by car and then to Wray Castle by boat. When we arrived at Wray Castle, we went on a long and pleasant stroll and took time looking out onto the lake on the tiny strips of beach like areas. My boyfriend taught me to skim stones, which I gradually got the hand of (although I was still very rubbish) and by the late afternoon, it was time to boat back to Waterhead.

I absolutely loved The Lakes, it was the perfect place to relax, take in the fresh air and enjoy the nature. I made so many more memories there and wish I could replay the whole week away all over again!

Comment below if you're thinking of heading to the Lake District soon or if you've been to any of the same places!
